Family Law Cases We Handle

Here is a partial list of the kinds of challenges Texas families often call on us to help with:

Our Family Law Attorneys’ Experience

Evans Family Law Group helps clients with the most simple to the most complex family law matters, including divorce, child custody, modifications of prior orders, and enforcement issues.

Our principal attorney, James W. Evans (“Jimmy”) is Board Certified in Family law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, is a member of the Texas Family Law Foundation, a member of the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists, and is currently in the review process of obtaining an “AV” rating with Martindale Hubble.

In practice since 1995 with more than 100 jury trials to his credit, Mr. Evans has proven himself to be effective in and out of the courtroom. We understand that divorce and custody disputes are life changing events. We understand the emotional and the financial costs. We take pride in our ability to resolve your case in a professional, collaborative, and dignified manner by agreement, but all the while keeping a watchful eye on protecting our client’s rights – whether it be property or the rights as it relates to your children.

More importantly, perhaps, Mr. Evans would say he is a husband and father of two. On staff we have a father of two, a mother of four, a mother of kiddos in college, and a proud grandmother. We understand the value of a bonded relationship with your children and, of course the damage done when a parent is not “plugged in” and, how abandonment, abuse, or substance abuse can have a devastating impact on you and your children. We also are experienced in cases involving children with special needs and making sure that the issues that come with children with special needs are taken into consideration throughout the process.

However, for all kinds of reasons, sometimes disputes simply cannot be resolved by agreement. Divorce and custody are often times more about “control” and a party stubbornly takes a position. We have learned to make this an advantage for our clients. Mr. Evans takes pride in his background and that of the team at Evans Family Law Group, that we like to say we know how and, most importantly, when to pick these battles to reach the maximum result in your case. As a result, we work hard to efficiently manage limited financial resources for legal fees but work to achieve excellent results. When you have your consult with Mr. Evans, ask about this and what we sometimes call the “inchworm” strategy.

We are available to work around your schedule. We typically offer free initial consultations during the week and are available for paid consultations after hours or on the weekend as necessary or in the event of an emergency. We pride ourselves in our consultations in making sure you have a detailed and thorough understanding of the issues presented by your case and a specific plan and strategy that we will implement upon being retained. This is often one of the most frequent comments and compliments we receive.

Here in this website you will find information about the areas of practice, a new feature which allows clients to make payments on-line, useful questionnaires and worksheets to assist you as you work through your divorce or custody matter, sample results in real cases handled by our firm, and background and further information on the team at Evans Family Law Group.

What Clients Say about Our Family Lawyers

I had an unusual and difficult case. Mr. Dannen never once was hesitant or unable to come through for me. I went from having essentially no rights to my children to almost 50/50 custody. He is what I like to consider a miracle worker. Not only is he amazing at his job, but he’s extremely personable. We joke that he’s my new personal attorney, but, he secretly is.– Alicia Bullara (read review on Google Maps)

Elizabeth Ayala at Evans Family Law worked on my custody & enforcement case. She was professional and efficient. She seemed to be very experienced with situations like mine, and clearly was respected by members of the court. She offered creative solutions to minimize the amount of time, money, and energy that I had to spend on the case. I would highly recommend her, and plan to use her again in the future if my situation requires going back to court.” – Maggie Moore (read review on Google Maps)

We had a complicated situation with continuing Jurisdiction for visitation and parenting agreements in 2 states, with one parent residing in a 3rd state when we were relocated to Texas. Evans Family Law group helped us get the Parenting and Visitation agreement transferred and filed in Texas after a lengthy process. The result was the best possible outcome we could have hoped for, especially given the complicated nature of the situation at the beginning of the process. They are very knowledgeable in Texas and Federal family law, we highly recommend them for any situation. They will listen to you and help you achieve the best outcome for your children.” – Michael Marks (read review on Google Maps)

“I am very happy to have chosen James W. Evans (Jimmy) to defend my rights during my divorce for several different reasons. First, his office has an enormous amount of experience and savvy during the process. Second, their advice put this scary process into perspective and guided me in a systematic fashion making me feel more comfortable. Third, Jimmy recommendations and legal approach enabled me to obtain favorable rights during the mediation process. For example, what started with limited possession schedule was finalized into an equal split. Fourth, the final separation and decree was finalized in a smooth mediation which served to protect our family from a lengthy and possibly painful court appearance. I appreciate this and the many other items he managed me through during this process. I highly recommend Mr. Jimmy Evans for anyone who is in need of a strong supporter and manager of a family law matter.” – Lance Ford (see review on Google Maps)

“Jimmy represented us during our child’s divorce, protecting our role as grandparents. Grandparents don’t really have rights, so we’re delighted to be included in the decree, with rights of access and possession. We highly recommend Jimmy (and have already, with equal success).” – Fran Hart (see review on Google Maps)
